Anita Schöbel, director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM, has been awarded the Science Prize of the Society for Operations Research. She received the prize at the end of August 2023 for her lifetime achievement.
"Operations Research" is a field in which researchers from mathematics, economics and computer science develop quantitative models that serve as planning and decision-making aids in business and social processes. Mathematical optimization is of particular importance in this context. The methods are currently used, for example, in energy distribution, medicine, logistics and mobility planning.
