Information and communication technologies are the key to the digital society. As a societal driving force, the Fraunhofer ICT Group is not only a technology supplier, but also a holistic thought leader and agenda setter. This applies to topics such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, data spaces and cloud computing, 5G-/6G mobile networks or cyber security. At re:publica 2022, we want to spark the discussion between technology experts and actors from the civil society in several stage sessions and lightning talks. Thematic focal points are "Trustworthy AI", 5G mobile networks, metaverse and data economy.
In the panel "Can we trust artificial intelligence? From secure applications and trustworthy A.I." (held in German, Thursday, June 9, 2022, 4:15-5:15 p.m., Stage 3), we look from different angles at what is arguably the most important "social skill" of AI: trustworthiness. What does trustworthy A.I. mean? What are our requirements for A.I. compared to humans? Who bears the responsibility for ensuring that A.I. systems function as desired? The perspective of the federal government will be explored, as well as that of industrial A.I. users, consumers, and researchers. Trusted A.I. will be explained through applications, such as cancer detection and A.I.-based synthetic media, such as machine-generated news, sports, and financial reports. In the sessions on the status quo and future of A.I. issues around consumer protection, morality and liability, and requirements for non-discriminatory, transparent and fair A.I. that is widely accepted in society will be discussed. Guests on the panel will be Christiane Rohleder (Secretary of State at the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection), the head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems and A.I. expert Prof. Stefan Wrobel, Dennis Horn (digital specialist at ARD), and Frauke Rostalski (professor of "Law and Ethics of Digital Transformation" at the University of Cologne). The session will be hosted by rbb technology expert Sven Oswald.
In two "Lightnig Talks," researchers from the Fraunhofer ICT Group will provide deeper insights into the technologies 5G and 6G, respectively, fair data economy and the trend topic Metaverse:
