As the long-standing Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT in Sankt Augustin (2000 to 2021), he defined an era at the institute and in the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. He chaired the Fraunhofer ICT Group from 2010 to 2015 and was also President of the German Informatics Society from 2004 to 2007.

In Matthias Jarke, we are losing an outstanding personality who has made a significant contribution to our research group. We will miss his commitment and his work, as well as his valuable scientific contributions in the field of information technology and information systems engineering. We will always remember Matthias Jarke with great respect.
